City of Lawton, Oklahoma

Whereas, The summer months bring a higher incidence of days when ozone pollution levels pose a risk to Lawton citizens and the environment; and,

Whereas, emissions from mobile sources, such as automobiles and lawn equipment, account for over 50 percent of air pollution in the United States; and,

Whereas, children, people with lung disease, older adults, and people with heart disease are more vulnerable to outdoor pollution; and,

Whereas, utilizing the Air Quality Index to characterize the quality of the air, is a simple way to create public awareness and protect the health of our community; and,

Whereas, the City of Lawton, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality are working together to encourage Americans to utilize the Air Quality Index, understand what causes poor air quality, and take action to improve the overall outdoor air quality.

Now, therefore, I, Fred L. Fitch, Mayor, City of Lawton, with pride, do hereby proclaim the week of April 29 – May 3, 2013 to be in the City of Lawton.

In witness whereof, I hereunto set my hand and cause the Official Seal of the City of Lawton, Oklahoma, to be affixed hereto this 7th Day of April 2013
